Position Overview:
A Fiber Optic Technician is tasked with the installation, maintenance, and repair of fiber optic cables and telecommunication systems. Their primary responsibility is to ensure the efficient operation of fiber optic infrastructure, resolving technical issues promptly. This role demands a comprehensive understanding of fiber optic technology, strong problem-solving abilities, and adaptability to diverse working environments.
Key Responsibilities:
Installation:
Install, terminate, and splice fiber optic cables according to industry standards.
Secure cables along designated routes, including aerial, underground, and indoor installations.
Deploy fiber optic enclosures and distribution panels as required for network connectivity.
Testing and Troubleshooting:
Conduct optical power and loss testing using specialized equipment like OTDRs and power meters.
Perform continuity and optical loss testing to ensure network integrity.
Identify and resolve fiber optic network issues such as signal degradation and connectivity problems promptly.
Maintenance and Repair:
Execute routine maintenance tasks such as cleaning connectors and inspecting equipment.
Repair or replace damaged fiber optic cables, connectors, and components to maintain system functionality.
Implement preventive maintenance measures to preempt potential issues and minimize network downtime.
Documentation and Reporting:
Maintain accurate records of installations, modifications, and repairs.
Document test results and equipment configurations for reference and future maintenance.
Generate detailed reports outlining work performed and recommendations for improvements.
Compliance and Safety:
Adhere to industry regulations and safety protocols during all tasks.
Utilize appropriate personal protective equipment and follow safety procedures to prevent accidents.
Ensure compliance with local codes, permits, and environmental regulations.
Qualifications:
Diploma or equivalent; technical certification or associate degree preferred.
Proven experience in fiber optic technology and installation methods.
Proficiency in using splicing equipment, OTDRs, and testing tools.
