Job Description
We are looking for a seasoned veterinarian to join our team. The Veterinarian is in charge of providing and managing high-quality health and medical services to ensure that the entire animal collection is well-cared after. This includes, but is not limited to, diagnosing and treating illness and injuries, maintaining a preventive medical program, adhering to quarantine protocols, caring for animals recovering from illness or injury, performing post-mortem examinations, running a full-service clinic, and ensuring compliance with all relevant regulatory agencies.
Qualifications:Performs physical examinations, diagnostic tests, and surgical, and dental operations successfully. Clients are informed about their pets’ diagnoses, treatment options, preventive health care, and nutritional requirements.
In a fast-paced shelter environment, provides high-quality sterilization surgery for adopted animal population management. Triage, physical exams, emergency medical care, stabilization, diagnosis and treatment of unwell and injured animals, minor surgery, immunizations, and testing are all examples of routine veterinarian care.
Provides animal husbandry, humane animal handling, sanitation and disease prevention, basic animal behavior, medical care, surgical support (intake and discharge), and animal first aid training to employees. Assists in the training, evaluation, and execution of effective animal euthanasia by injection; Examines all impounded animals and orders euthanasia for those who are sick or damaged.
To acquire AAALAC certification, a laboratory animal care and use program must be established and maintained.
All animals not already vaccinated against rabies are vaccinated when immunization is suitable, and all animals released from quarantine observation are confirmed as rabies-free. Provides information to animal bite victims, such as the steps they should take to ensure their safety.
Gathers extensive information from clients and listens to and understands their worries and wants.
Employees must be able to collect animal data, enter dispositions into a computer, and generate monthly and weekly reports according to specified processes.
Ability to obtain and control euthanasia drugs and equipment, as well as ensure that supplies and equipment are used correctly in accordance with all applicable state and federal rules and laws. Ability to stay updated on market trends and innovations in the animal sheltering business.
Writes medical treatment procedures and follows them. Ability to interpret local animal-care and-control ordinances, legislation, rules, and regulations, as well as city policies. Capacity to reply to public and city officials’ queries; Assist with the effective and quick resolution of concerns.
Maintains client/patient medical/surgical records and ensures that all pertinent logs are kept current in accordance with approved norms.Skills:MedARKs, ZIMS, and other medical record-keeping systems are all things you should know about.
Communication skills are important.
A doctor of veterinary medicine (DVM), a veterinary medical doctor (VMD), or an equivalent degree from an AVMA-accredited veterinary institution is required.
Possess (or receive) a DEA license and a restricted substances registration.
